About Tim Ceder
My Story
I grew up near Tacoma, Washington, and have a deep connection to the Pacific Northwest. I attended the University of Washington followed by the University of Oregon School of Law, graduating in the top 5% of his class in 2010. During law school, I clerked with the US Attorney’s Office in Oregon and learned to love litigation while handling federal misdemeanor cases. Upon graduation, I commissioned in the United States Navy JAG Corps and began working exclusively in the military justice field.
I spent 10 years on active duty as JAG, holding positions including as defense counsel at Naval Legal Service Office Southwest in Mayport, serving as core defense counsel for Defense Service Office Pacific in Pearl Harbor, and eventually assuming the role of Military Deputy Director for Government Appellate Division of the Office of the Judge Advocate General in Washington, DC. Through all this experience, I developed a proficiency in writing complex motions and appellate briefs, as well as arguing before both trial judges and the highest appellate courts in the military.
Along with my military criminal work, the Navy also allowed me to assist clients with estate preparation. I helped hundreds of active duty servicemembers, retirees, and their families plan for their future. While I will always love the battles of a courtroom it remains an incredibly satisfying part of my legal practice to help people prepare for their final years. I was thankful that the Navy let me supplement my fast-paced litigation work with this additional area, and it armed me to diversify my ability to represent clients in the civilian world.
In 2020, amid the COVID pandemic, I left active duty to pursue a career that I could build myself. I knew that my naval service would trend toward supervision, not directly handling cases in the trenches, and I wanted to help people directly.
For about two years, I worked at the Washington State Attorney General's Office, defending the state against a wide variety of tort cases. These included employment issues, negligent supervision by the Department of Corrections, and personal injury cases. While I learned a lot, I missed working for an individual client. I knew I could do more direct work to utilize the skills I had developed. So in 2022, I founded Redwood Law.
With Redwood Law, I am able to exploit my background to help individual clients in the fields that I know and enjoy: military criminal law, simple estate planning, and personal injury. Because of my blended background in both military criminal work and civil matters, I am able to offer comprehensive counsel to clients armed with expertise. I do not take cases to learn the law. I do not take cases to find my passion. I take cases where I know I can help people.
